Best Housing Partnership
Aberfeldy Village by EcoWorld London and Poplar HARCA
Aberfeldy Village is an estate regeneration mixed tenure project in East London, totalling £250m with 1,176 homes within 710,418 sq ft. The original Aberfeldy Estate was developed postwar following widespread destruction of Victorian housing during the second world war. In 2012 housing and community association Poplar HARCA and EcoWorld London, at the time known as Willmott Dixon Regen, formed the Aberfeldy New Village LLP joint-venture partnership, the Partnership, and gained planning permission for a residential led mixed-use regeneration of the Aberfeldy Estate.
10 years into a 20 year timeline, the development has reached a pivotal moment; the implementation of a completely reimagined master plan that reflects the changing nature of both the area and the UK population’s attitudes towards the environment and neighbourhood living. The success of the scheme to date and the scale of its future vision evidence the strong public and private sector partnership between Poplar HARCA and EcoWorld London.
Judges’ comments
“Strongest of three in the category, positive JV and partnership working; formed a JV to deliver this large scale estate regeneration scheme, no small feat. Photographs not provided but the CGI visuals look promising.”
“A high quality submission, halfway through a 20 year long postwar housing estate regeneration programme in poplar, public and private partnership. Strong messaging around community engagement and delivering social value. Promises to be a successful development with community features at its heart. An exemplary project with solid foundations in community engagement and a strong partnership. The social value benefits stemming from the partnership are a good example of the added value of the partnership approach.”
