IO House

Contemporary architecture, elegant interior design and smart tech meet to create IO House. Coming from the tech start-up sector, the client was keen to push the boundaries of technology and product innovation within architecture and interior design while demonstrating a commitment to sustainable living. They challenged KSR to create a smart home that would go beyond providing convenience and efficiency and deliver a sense of magic and illusion. An exemplar of the 'Gamification of Architecture’, IO House is brimming with unexpected encounters and experiences. The culmination of creative thinking and an unconventional approach to problem solving, the realisation of this extraordinary building was supported by a complexity of technical gymnastics. The ultra contemporary residence features digital art and intriguing works of holography to create a truly immersive environment. An interactive and programmable staircase with audio-visual effects adds to the sense of wonderment. Two giant, interactive chrome slides, accessed via an iris portal, present an exhilarating ride as they traverse the three stories of the building, from the Reception Level down to the subterranean Leisure Level, home to the gym, spa, pool and ‘Earthquake’ cinema. Delivering this level of innovation and intrigue within a residential environment required a specialist team and KSR worked with researchers, product designers and magicians to deliver their ideas. IO House has been described as the blueprint for the smart home. The house can be managed from anywhere in the world with apps controlling everything from lights, speakers, blinds and windows to video walls and water features.
