Best Interior Design - Individual Home (£500,000 or less)

Winner : “Myddelton Square" by Robert Rhodes Architecture + Interiors with Robert London Design

This project involved the sensitive renovation of a Georgian townhouse in Clerkenwell, Islington, to create a functional, timeless home for a family with three young children.

The homeowners sought to respect the period character of the property while re-arranging spaces to suit their contemporary living needs. Key challenges included preserving the historic Georgian detailing, installing modern features without harming the original fabric, and transforming a barren garden into a child-friendly oasis.

The renovation focused on creating cohesive, understated spaces that blend seamlessly with the home's historic character. The ground and first floors retained their original layout, with the old kitchen replaced by a panelled design. A new feature bathroom with Crittall-style feature shower finished Carrara marble. The top floor was restored to include children’s bedrooms, with a central, top lit ‘Jack and Jill’ bathroom finished in modern terrazzo in complementary warm tones.

The basement was reimagined as a playroom, guest suite, and study with direct garden access. The garden design, devised by the client and developed by our consulting garden designers, GRDN provided a lush, low-maintenance refuge, enhancing the home's appeal. The project emphasised durability and utility, using a reduced material palette to achieve a simple, unified interior. The result is a home that effortlessly integrates new elements, maintaining the property's historic charm while meeting the family's evolving needs.
