Best Use of Smart Technology

Winner : “IO House" by KSR Architects

IO House, designed by KSR Architects, is a groundbreaking fusion of contemporary architecture, elegant interior design, and advanced smart technology. Commissioned by a tech-savvy client, the project aimed to push the boundaries of innovation while emphasising sustainable living.

IO House features interactive and programmable elements, such as a staircase with audio-visual effects and two giant chrome slides, accessed via an iris portal, that traverse the three-storey building, creating a sense of magic and playfulness.

The house seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology, including a comprehensive smart home system that controls lighting, entertainment, and water features via apps. A highlight is the immersive environment created by digital art, holography, and a state-of-the-art ‘Earthquake’ cinema.

Sustainability was a key focus, with the home achieving an EPC A rating through elements such as a ground-source heat pump, solar panels, and a highly efficient building envelope. The design incorporates a large green roof planted to attract bees and butterflies plus triple glazing, and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, significantly reducing energy consumption.

IO House not only demonstrates the gamification of architecture but also serves as a blueprint for the future of smart homes, blending innovation, sustainability, and a sense of wonder within a residential environment.
