Best Interior Design - Individual Home (more than £500,000)

Winner : “Mazarine" by Bradley Van Der Straeten Architects

Mazarine, a project by Bradley Van Der Straeten Architects, artfully transforms two mansion apartments in Belsize Park, north London, into a vibrant, two-storey family home. This renovation, focused on maximising natural light and showcasing the clients' love for travel, art, and natural materials, creating a dynamic space that seamlessly blends colour, light and flow.

The design overcame challenges posed by the original layout and neighbouring apartments by incorporating structural columns as features and strategically positioning a new staircase to create a double-height space. This innovative approach floods the entrance with natural light and enhances the flow between living areas, enabling cross-ventilation and a fluid connection throughout the home.

Colour plays a pivotal role in Mazarine. External walls are painted in warm tones to brighten the space, while rich chocolate accents highlight existing features. Influences from Indian painter Thota Vaikuntam  and artists from the Seychelles and Kerala inspire the palette of greens, reds, and blues. Natural oak herringbone flooring and dark stained oak joinery add texture and depth, complementing the clients' art collection and furniture.

The result is a harmonious blend of artistic expression and thoughtful design, where new elements feel intrinsic to the home's character, creating a vibrant, functional, and personalised family space.
