In addition to recognising design excellence in specific categories, The Mail on Sunday British Homes Awards provide an unrivalled opportunity for architectural practices to showcase their design vision for tomorrow’s lifestyle home.
Sponsored by VELUX and in association with its key partners, National Centre for Excellence in Housing, Modern Built Environment – Knowledge Transfer Network (MBE KTN), BIDA (British Interior Design Association), THINK08 (a new landmark in UK construction and property events) and Real Estate TV, entries for the British Homes Awards 2008 were invited for consideration within 12 Categories. In collaboration with one of Britain’s most innovative house builders and a recipient of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, Crest Nicholson PLC, architects working with interior designers were also invited to submit their own vision of tomorrow’s Lifestyle Home.
The panel of Judges – again chaired by celebrated Past President of RIBA, Michael Manser – selected a short-list of 10 which were presented to the readers of The Mail on Sunday to vote for their winning design to be built by Crest Nicholson at a site within the UK.
All the Award winning and commended schemes, including HomeBuilder of the Year (sponsored by Knauf Insulation), the Architect of the Year (sponsored by Landmark Promap) together with the winning scheme for tomorrow’s Lifestyle Home (sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan), were announced at a black-tie event in front of 500 guests in London on Friday June 20 in the presence of the Housing Minister RT Hon Caroline Flint MP and the RIBA President Sunand Prasad.
